Laura Howell is a talented photographer residing in Burke, Virginia. Her interest in photography began 20 years ago – but only in the past few years has she taken a serious interest in her favorite hobby. She is currently in charge of gifts for speakers and judges for The Vienna Photographic Society as well as a member of the League of Reston Artists (Reston Photographic Society) and The Northern Virginia Photographic Society.
She has won numerous awards and contests. They include:
First place award for the image Abstract Edges and an Honorable Mention for the image Leaf Detail.
Vienna Community Center (Honorable Mentions in 2002 & 2003)
U.S. Geological Survey (3rd Place in July 2003)
First Annual Community Art Show & Afternoon Tea (Honorable Mention in April 2004) in Haymarket, Virginia

Three images,
Macro Flower #1, Meadowlark Heron, and Butterfly #1, were juried in to the permanent collection for Inova Mount Vernon Hospital.
She participates in exhibits at the Vienna Community Center, the U.S. Geological Survey, the Reston Community Center at Lake Anne, the Reston Community Center at Hunter's Woods, and at Meadowlark Gardens.
Her major objective in photography is to search for those powerful opportunities when light, detail, and perspective unite to produce an evocative image full of moment and meaning. |
